Marco Jansen becomes first to 50 wickets

Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Paarl Royals | 31 December 2025 | St George’s Park

In a high-stakes SA20 blockbuster between the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the Paarl Royals, the towering left-arm quick carved his name into the history books, becoming the very first bowler to breach the 50-wicket mark in the competition.

The match result may not have been in favour of Sunrisers, but Jansen will always have fond memories of it after reaching a personal milestone.

Jansen’s consistency across the four Betway SA20 seasons was rewarded when Royals batter Asa Tribe failed to get on top of the extra bounce and could manage to drill a drive straight to Tristan Stubbs at mid-off. Incidentally, Stubbs has been Jansen's best 'assister' - taking 8 catches off his bowling (7 as a wicketkeeper).

The bean pole left-armer is the undisputed spearhead of the Sunrisers attack, having finished top of the competition’s overall bowling charts in Season 2 and Season 3.

He was also named MVP in Season 3, and his success has been integral to the Sunrisers triumphing in three of the four seasons.
