5 of the best: catches that had fans on their feet

Wickets are credited to bowlers, but the fielders who hold the chances often decide the result.

Here are five catches, at least one from each of the first four seasons, that showcase the most athletic moments in the field.

1. Will Jacks to dismiss Gerald Coetzee (Season 1)

Boundary catches are among the hardest in the game, and this one came at the death at the Wanderers. When Eathan Bosch's delivery was hit towards the rope, Jacks had to read the flight, cover the ground at pace and judge how close he was to the boundary. He then took the catch one-handed on the run to send Gerald Coetzee back to the pavilion.

2. Aiden Markram to dismiss JJ Smuts (Season 2)

Catches at mid-on give a fielder very little time, because the ball arrives quickly and close to the body. The Sunrisers had already struck two blows in the Powerplay when Jon-Jon Smuts attempted to pull a length delivery from Ottneil Baartman down the ground. But that’s when Aiden Markram timed his leap to perfection to take a sensational one-handed stunner. DSG were reduced to 13/3 and it was the beginning of the end for the men from Kingsmead. Markram’s acrobatics showed how a brilliant catch could influence the final result.

3. Naveen-ul-Haq to dismiss Leus du Plooy (Season 2)

Two days after Aiden Markram's catch, another knockout game produced another early wicket in the field. In the third over, Leus du Plooy hit Reece Topley's delivery towards mid-off, and Naveen flew to his side to take the catch. 

With the ball travelling fast and low, the chance could easily have gone past him. Instead Topley had a wicket in his third over, and the Super Giants had the early breakthrough in a match with a place in the final at stake.

4. Donovan Ferreira to dismiss Beyers Swanepoel (Season 3)

Joburg Super Kings vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape, 26 January 2025

Beyers Swanepoel smashed Hardus Viljoen's delivery towards the boundary, and Donovan Ferreira set off after it. Like Jacks in Season 1, he took the catch one-handed on the run, judging the ball and the rope together, with Swanepoel looking on in disbelief.

5. Dewald Brevis to dismiss Karim Janat (Season 4)

Pretoria Capitals vs MI Cape Town, 12 January 2026

Truth be told, Dewald Brevis could have his personal reel of sensational catches in Betway SA20. He took a stunner to dismiss Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Tom Abell in Season 3 on the Newlands boundary, and another ‘speccie’ against Joburg Super Kings at the Bullring in S4 when he tip-toed around the boundary rope before throwing himself in-field to hold on to the ball. 

But he kept one his best for Karim Janat at Newlands last season. Playing for his new team, Pretoria Capitals, Brevis reminded MI Cape Town of his athleticism when he sprinted in from the deep midwicket boundary, tracking the dipping flight of the ball with laser focus before lunging forward in a full-stretch dive.
