INCREDIBLE SEASON 4 MOMENTS: LUNGI NGIDI HAT-TRICK HERO

8 Jul 20264 mins

The modern T20 player’s barometer is no longer purely the number of runs scored or wickets taken. It is about the impact a player can make on any given match.

This relates to a five-ball cameo, a wicket-maiden over, or simply a spectacular catch that changes the momentum of the match.

Utilising this metric, we’ve looked past the traditional milestones of centuries and five-wicket hauls and selected a list of “Incredible Moments” from Betway SA20 Season 4 in this new series.

SEASON 4 INCREDIBLE MOMENT 8

LUNGI NGIDI: HAT-TRICK HERO

Durban’s Super Giants vs Pretoria Capitals | 7 January 2026 | Kingsmead

On a night where bowlers were merely bowling machines with heartbeats, Pretoria fast bowler Lungi Ngidi created Betway SA20 history.

With the Super Giants hovering at 160/5 and the match balanced on a knife-edge, Ngidi stepped up when it mattered most for his team.

Before this over, his spell had been largely indifferent, but in the span of three consecutive balls, Ngidi silenced the partisan DSG crowd.

First to depart was veteran David Wiese, who was forced into a miscue. Next to depart was West Indian Sunil Narine. The left-hander made room and stepped out to the leg-side, trying to lift a short delivery angled in at his body over midwicket, but could only find Connor Esterhuizen inside the ring.

The moment of truth arrived when Gerald Coetzee tried to heave one into the leg-side, but mistimed it completely to offer Dewald Brevis a catch at long-on.

By claiming the competition's first-ever hat-trick, Ngidi gave SA20 a signature moment of historical permanence.
