ST GEORGE'S PARK STATS, FACTS AND RECORDS

In this week's Trivia Tuesday, we look at St George's Park and the facts and stats that matter at the home of the back-to-back champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

225 - The highest total a team has scored in Gqeberha is the 225/3 which Durban's Super Giants racked up against hosts Sunrisers on 13 January 2024. This is the 5th-highest team total achieved so far in SA20 history and lead to an away win - one of only four there so far.

124 - The biggest victory margin by runs at St George's Park belongs to home team Sunrisers from Season 1 when they put on 210/2 against the previously mentioned Durbanites, who were then skittled for just 86.

96 - Using HawkEye technology, SA20 measured the distances of sixes hit during Season 2 and the longest at St George's Park belonged to the undoubted star of the 2024 campaign. DSG's Heinrich Klaasen deposited an Ottniel Baartman delivery all of 96m over the chalets and onto Park Drive.

77 - The Orange Army, like the Boland Park and Kingsmead faithful, are yet to witness an individual century at their home ground. The highest score a player has managed at St George's Park so far is the 77 not out which Pretoria Capitals' Phil Salt scored in venue's first-ever SA20 match on 12 January 2023. The Capitals won that clash.

52 - The lowest total a team has been dismissed for at St George's is the 52 which Sunrisers reduced Pretoria Capitals to on 22 January 2024. This is also the League-record.

14 - While there's yet to be a century at St George's Park, 14 half-centuries have been scored at the ground. Nine of those have those have come from Sunrisers batters, with Tom Abell, captain Aiden Markram and former player Jon-Jon Smuts scoring two each. By virtue of also scoring a fifty for Durban's Super Giants at the venue, Smuts is arguably the 'King of St George's' (the ground he has called home for the majority of his domestic career).

9 - The biggest win by wickets at St George's Park came in the aforementioned match when Pretoria Capitals were bundled out for 52. Sunrisers went on to a nine-wicket bonus-point victory - with 79 balls remaining.

7 - Jon-Jon Smuts' seven sixes during his match-defining 75 for Durban's Super Giants against Sunrisers is the most 'maximums' in an innings by a SA20 batter at St George's Park.

6 - Season 1 Bowler of the Season, Roelof van der Merwe's 6/20 against Durban's Super Giants, 22 January 2023, is not only the best bowling figures at Sunrisers Eastern Cape's home ground, but also the best figures by any bowler in the League's history.

1 - The only abandoned match of SA20 so far, unfortunately, was the opening fixture of Season 2 when rain won the day, rather than defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape or Joburg Super Kings.
