28 May 20244 mins

With the final deadline having passed for teams to make changes to their ICC T20 World Cup squads, a total of 37 Betway SA20-signed players are confirmed for the showpiece tournament to be hosted by West Indies and the USA.

The most recent addition to the ranks is Paarl Royals’ Obed McCoy, picked by West Indies as an injury replacement for Jason Holder in their final 15 - three of which play in SA20.

The entire South African squad, as a can be expected, are made up of players signed to the country’s premier T20 cricket league, while England with nine and Afghanistan with four are the next highest.

All told, there is a relatively even spread of T20 World Cup-bound players across the six SA20 franchises, but Season 2 runners-up Durban’s Super Giants supply the most. Nine of their players are set to play in the tournament, in five different teams. South Africa will have Betway Player of the Season and Batter of the Season Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj and Quinton de Kock in their ranks. Afghanistan has named Season 2 revelation Noor Ahmad and Naveen-ul-Haq, Australia have picked Marcus Stoinis and Ashton Agar while Nicholas Pooran will turn out for co-hosts West Indies and Reece Topley will try help England defend their title.

The franchise with the next most players is MI Cape Town with seven and Pretoria Capitals fans can look out for six of their players. The remaining 15 players are evenly spread between Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals and back-to-back champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Intriguingly, the League plays host to four captains: Jos Buttler (England), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Aiden Markram (South Africa) and Paul Stirling (Ireland). The Irish captain is the most experienced T20 World Cup player among the cohort of players, he will be headed to his eighth edition but this is his first as full-time captain.
