BETWAY SA20 STARS SHINE IN TIGHTLY-CONTESTED T20 CHALLENGE 3RD ROUND

During the third round of the CSA T20 Challenge matches, Betway SA20-signed players again proved difference-makers for their domestic teams.

For the third match in a row, Marco Jansen was a star for his Warriors team, but this time with the bat. The lanky bowling allrounder, had one standout innings during SA20 Season 2, when promoted up the order against Paarl Royals at Boland Park, and the same happened on Wednesday evening.

Promoted to number 4 against the star-studded Titans on Wednesday, Jansen drove the Warriors innings with his 56 not out ultimately taking their score to 185/5.

With Heinrich Klaasen returning to action for the first time since the SA20 Final, and Dewald Brevis setting the tone for the Titans innings with 50 off 29, Warriors’ bowlers were always likely to find the going tough. However, their collective including Jansen, Beyers Swanepoel, Nealan van Heerden and Patrick Kruger came up clutch to secure a two-run victory for the Gqeberha-based team, consolidating their place at the top of the log three rounds into the domestic competition.

Meanwhile, 19 SA20-signed players featured in the Dolphins-Lions fixture at Kingsmead. As it happened, it was players who were on the fringes of their SA20 teams who put up noteworthy performances.

Temba Bavuma (who only played once for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Season 2) top-scored for the Lions with with 53 not out as they set 155/5.

In reply, Bryce Parsons (Durban’s Super Giants’ rookie) set the tone for the Dolphins’ chase with 62 off 49. Lions allrounder Delano Potgieter (who only played twice for MI Cape Town in Season) did his bit with the ball claiming 3/25 in his four overs, but ultimately the Durbanites got over the line in the final over, winning by four wickets.

Following his rookie experience at Durban's Super Giants, Bryce Parsons has returned to his domestic team, the Dolphins, brimming with confidence.

At Newlands, Western Province and North West Dragons maintained a closely fought evening of T20 cricket.

Kyle Verreynne lead his team from the front with his 42 off 30 helping WP to 188/7 against a Dragons bowling attack which included his Pretoria Capitals teammates Migael Pretorius and Senuran Muthusamy as well as Caleb Seleka, who didn’t get a game during Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s title run.

In reply, Dragons were pegged back by Kyle Simmonds (Joburg Super Kings) and Beuran Hendricks (MI Cape Town) bowling economically. However, the likes of Wihan Lubbe (Paarl Royals) took the charge to Wayne Parnell (Pretoria Capitals), George Linde (MI Cape Town) and WP’s other bowlers. Ultimately, the hosts held firm enough to secure a four-run victory and join Warriors at the top of the table ahead of the second weekend’s matches.
