Down to the wire: five of the best finishes in Betway SA20 history

T20 cricket is made for close finishes, and Betway SA20 has enjoyed its fair share.

Over the past four seasons, the league has already produced a Super Over, a nerveless final-ball six, a scarcely believable collapse, and not one but two matches settled by the smallest of margins with wickets in hand.

Here are five finishes that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

1. The last-wicket escape - PC vs MICT, 4 February 2023

The template for SA20 drama was set in the league's very first season. Pretoria Capitals, needing two runs off the final ball with nine wickets down, sent Josh Little out to face Sam Curran with the match - and their season - hanging by a thread.

Curran served up a full toss, and Little slashed it over the infield for the boundary that won it. Capitals home by one wicket, off the last ball, with one wicket to spare.

2. Worrall survives the late assault - SEC vs MICT, 27 January 2024

A year on, at St George's Park in Gqeberha, MI Cape Town needed 18 off the final over to beat Sunrisers Eastern Cape. George Linde did his best to make it happen, launching a six and following up with a four to keep the equation alive - but a run-out in between turned the chase on its head, leaving MI Cape Town needing six off the last ball.

Daniel Worrall held his nerve at the death, and Sunrisers came through by four runs in a finish that swung twice in the space of an over.

3. Naveen holds his nerve - DSG vs PC, 10 January 2025

Pretoria Capitals looked to have won this one. Cruising at 154 without loss after 12 overs, they suddenly found themselves needing 14 off the final over with only two wickets in hand - the middle overs having stripped away the top order in a collapse few saw coming. Durban's Super Giants turned to Naveen-ul-Haq to defend it, and he did exactly that, conceding just nine runs to seal a two-run win and complete one of the greatest capitulations, and one of the coolest final overs, the league has seen.

4. The Super Over match - JSK vs DSG, 1 January 2026

New Year's Day delivered SA20's first-ever Super Over. Joburg Super Kings had posted 205/4, with Shubham Ranjane (50 not out) and a blistering Donovan Ferreira cameo doing the early damage, only for Durban's Super Giants to match them run for run and tie the scores at 205 apiece off the final ball of the innings.

In the Super Over, Richard Gleeson held DSG to five, with Evan Jones run out off the last delivery - and Ferreira's brilliant work in the field proved the difference before Rilee Rossouw finished it with two boundaries off Noor Ahmad. Ferreira, fittingly, was Player of the Match.

5. Raza's last-ball six - PR vs DSG, 13 January 2026

Twelve days later, Durban's Super Giants were on the wrong end of a classic finish again. Chasing 186, Paarl Royals needed six off the final over with Sikandar Raza at the crease against David Wiese.

Wiese held him to four off the first five deliveries - and then Raza cleared mid-wicket for six to seal it with the very last ball, lifting Paarl Royals to second on the table and leaving DSG needing results to go their way just to keep their PlayoffS hopes alive.
