Senuruan Muthusamy ready to build on Sunrisers success
Being a born-and-bred Durbanite before spending a short period in Potchefstroom and Pretoria, Senuran Muthusamy can now comfortably call Gqeberha home.
Not only does Muthusamy play his local domestic cricket for the Warriors, but he’s also a valued member of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape squad down at St George’s Park.
Muthusamy was courted by Sunrisers coach Adrian Birrell ahead of Season 4, and the Proteas allrounder repaid the faith with 12 wickets at an average of 19.33 and an economy rate of 7.17, which played a pivotal role in the Eastern Cape side claiming their third Betway SA20 championship last season.
The cornerstone of the Sunrisers’ success over the past four seasons has been to reward excellence, and they’ve done so again by retaining Muthusamy's services for Season 5.
“I'm really grateful for my time so far at the Sunrisers. It's been incredible. An incredible group of people to work with, incredible coaching staff, incredible group of players,” the left-arm spinner said.
“I'm just so grateful to have been signed by them last year, and I'm very grateful to have been kept on for the season ahead.
“I think we've done some really awesome stuff this past season, even though there were quite a few changes. So, yeah, I'm really looking forward to that journey and linking up again when that tournament comes around.”
Muthusamy was all-action for Sunrisers in his first campaign with them which made him popular among their Orange Army of supporters
The Sunrisers have put together another powerful squad for Season 5, with the majority of the Season 4 title-winning squad being retained, while also adding the formidable pre-signings of Australian T20 captain Mitchell Marsh and Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain.

James Coles will also be back at St George’s Park, with the young England all-rounder possessing a similar skill-set to Muthusamy.
But the pair showed they could play together in the same line-up last season when they combined excellently to take five wickets - Muthusamy 3/26 and Coles 2/34 - to dismantle the Joburg Super Kings batting line-up.
Muthusamy believes he can also add value with the bat, which could potentially lengthen the Sunrisers’ batting line-up even further.
“I think I've tried really hard over the years to develop all three aspects of my game and it's something that I pride myself on,” he said.
“I enjoy all three disciplines of the game. So, it's something that I try to push forward with and really try to add balance and try to complement the teams that I play in as well as I can.”
