SQUADS FOR START OF SEASON 2 FINALISED
Betway SA20 today confirmed a number of new players who will take part in Season 2, starting today at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
Due to injury and national team call-ups, amongst others, almost all of the League’s teams have had to make tweaks to their original squads confirmed after last year’s player auction.
Durban’s Super Giants have been the busiest. First they welcomed Afghanistan’s teenage leg-break sensation Noor Ahmad into their fold. The 19-year-old has replaced Sri Lankan left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka at Kingsmead.
Further changes in the DSG camp mean Proteas batter Tony de Zorzi and experienced English fast bowler Richard Gleeson are also set for SA20 debuts.
De Zorzi, 26, enjoyed a breakout international season during the home summer where he struck a brilliant 119* in the second ODI against India at St George’s Park before following it up with 81 in the third and final match of the series.
The classy left-hander replaced paceman Kyle Abbott at Kingsmead.
Gleeson, meanwhile, arrives in Durban as a temporary replacement for Afghanistan quick Naveen-ul-Haq, and the 36-year-old will look to hit the ground running and add full value during his short stay.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape have been hit by a national call-up for Brydon Carse as well as double injury blow to seamers Craig Overton and Sisanda Magala. They have therefore bolstered their squad with Australian seamer Daniel Worrall and big-hitting all-rounder Patrick Kruger. Overton’s Wildcard slot has been left open for the meantime, allowing the defending champions some wiggle room should they need reinforcement at short notice.

South Africa U19 stars Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius will also not be available for the Paarl Royals for Betway SA20 Season 2 with both set to participate in the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s World Cup.
The Royals have replaced Maphaka with Keith Dudgeon, while Nqaba Peter will slot into the ‘Rookie’ category vacated by Pretorius.
Pretoria Capitals have also lost their rookie, Steve Stolk, to junior Proteas duty and have chosen to rope in young allrounder Tiaan van Vuuren as his replacement. Sadly, Anrich Nortje hasn’t recovered from injury sufficiently enough to take part in Season 2. In his place comes Hardus Viljoen, who was a late call-up for Durban’s Super Giants in Season 1 too – fortunately he both knows the highveld well and arrives with vast experience.
Down in the Mother City, MI Cape Town have West Indies T20 legend Kieron Pollard available to cover regular captain Rashid Khan. The Afghanistan leg-spinner was due to be a late arrival due to scheduling, but has also been laid low with injury so Pollard’s stint might well stretch longer than the initially confirmed three matches.
Similarly, they have also lost England fast bowler Jofra Archer through injury and replaced him with Sri Lankan seamer Nuwan Thushara.

Joburg Super Kings, fortunately for them, are the only team who have not needed to make changes to the make-up of their squad. This has allowed their head coach Stephen Fleming to prepare for the campaign without interruption.
