SA20 SCHOOLS TOUR IGNITES EXCITEMENT FOR KLUSENER AND SUPER GIANTS IN DURBAN

In a different era, Lance Klusener would have been a prime target for T20 franchises all around the world.

Klusener, affectionately known as “Zulu”, was a swashbuckling allrounder that swung his hefty willow with fearless abandon to thump sixes into the stands, whilst also delivering thunderbolts. The perfect modern-day T20 package.

But Klusener’s illustrious playing career drew to a close just before the expansion of global T20 leagues, and he has instead poured his energies into imparting his knowledge to the next generation as coach of Durban’s Super Giants in the Betway SA20.

“Yeah, I missed out playing days, but obviously from my point of view, just really enjoying being part of franchise cricket around the world,” Klusener said.

“So yeah, just blessed to be able to work with the best players in the world and coach them. So yeah, making up for lost ground, I guess.”

Klusener is looking forward to his fourth season at Kingsmead with the Super Giants where the anticipation is certainly growing, especially after a host of high-profile internationals and rising stars were added for the new season.

Proteas T20I captain and double-winning Betway SA20 champion Aiden Markram has joined the Super Giants stable along with former England T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler, while the likes of teenage fast bowler Kwena Maphaka and Gerald Coetzee will now be charging in at Kingsmead.

The excitable Schalk Bezuidenhout signed up as the city's 20th Player this season and the effervescent comedian will certainly be bringing his vibes to Kingsmead.

The electrifying energy was already on full display when the SA Schools tour stopped at Durban Preparatory High School in Windermere.

Adding even more vibes to the day was YoungstaCPT, one of South Africa’s most recognisable hip hop voices.

The Cape Town-born rapper delivered a powerful freestyle performance that blended rhythm, culture and pure creativity that had the learners cheering, laughing and dancing.

“I just love the cricket. I just love the vibes,” said one DPHS learner.

“It’s just so much fun. I love Durban’s Super Giants.”
