YOU'VE VOTED FOR THE BEST CATCH OF SEASON 2, AND CHOSEN...
During the month of June, we asked our fans to vote for the best catch of Betway SA20 Season 2 and with those now tallied and unsurprising winner has emerged...
Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain Aiden Markram received a mighty 48% of the votes cast. It's by no means the title Markram was looking to claim in recent days, but the 'worldie' he took to dismiss Jon-Jon Smuts in Qualifier 1 will live long in the memory of those who saw it live, whether at Newlands that evening or thanks to any of the League's numerous broadcasting partners.
Time and time again Markram has shown himself to be a safe pair of hands when the ball gets hit in the air near him, but the 29-year-old's perfectly timed leap, one-handed reverse-cup grab, and agility to hold on tight upon landing was incredible even by his high standards.
While 'Sauce' was a clear winner in the vote, Faf du Plessis was as emphatic a runner-up for his over-the-shoulder diving effort to dismiss Dewald Brevis at a heaving Wanderers. Du Plessis, Joburg Super Kings' captain, was chosen by 31% of the respondents to show that the soon-to-be 40-year-old still maintains the highest standards in the field - as he did during his own period as national captain.
While the rest of the contenders all claimed fantastic catches themselves, their percentages of the vote suggest some team loyalty was at play. Paarl Royals' Mitchell van Buuren finished 'best-of-the-rest' with 7%, followed by Matthew Breetzke (Durban's Super Giants, 6%), Dewald Brevis (MI Cape Town, 5%) and Englishman Will Jacks (Pretoria Capitals, 3%).
