EXCITEMENT BUILDS TOWARDS BETWAY SA20 SEASON 3
The Betway SA20 Season 3 fixtures were launched in style at the Wanderers, which will also host the 2025 Final, this week.
We caught up with a player from each of the six teams as the excitement builds towards Season 3.
WIAAN MULDER (DURBAN'S SUPER GIANTS ALLROUNDER)
What was the difference between Season 1 and Season 2 for Durban’s Super Giants?
The first one was tough to be honest. We lost a couple of crucial games. Whereas in the second season, it seemed like everything went our way. We have ‘Magic Man’ Klaasie (Heinrich Klaasen) in our side who wins games single-handedly.
If you look at the whole competition, he won us a couple of games, but there were also so many different guys who put their hands up. That’s why we ended up in the final. It was a tough game, but we made it there.
LIZAAD WILLIAMS (JOBURG SUPER KINGS FAST BOWLER)
The Bullring is home to the Joburg Super Kings. What makes it so special?
The Wanderers is, of course, the most iconic stadium in the country, so it's very nice playing at the Wanderers. The crowds have come in even on school nights. Yeah, so we did make the Wanderers a fortress for us.
I think we missed Gerald Coetzee (in Season 2) but hopefully he will be back for next season which will just put our team in a better position.
CONNOR ESTERHUIZEN (MI CAPE TOWN WICKETKEEPER-BATTER)
What was it like to be picked up as a Rookie by a legend such as Mahela Jayawardene last season?
It was obviously a special feeling to be picked up by such a legend and iconic franchise around world cricket. We were playing a domestic game here [at the Wanderers] and we were off for rain, and I found out by my teammates that I got picked up. It was a very special evening.
LUNGI NGIDI (PAARL ROYALS)
How does it feel to be one of the senior players at Paarl Royals and how will you use that experience to nurture a youngster such as Kwena Maphaka?
I think it's a massive privilege to nurture young players into the international scene. The biggest thing is helping them deal with the pressure and what comes with international cricket.
Playing in front of these crowds, packed stadiums, they will already be accustomed to that when they get to a World Cup. Helping them manage their emotions and hopefully when we move on, we pass the baton.

It was incredible for a team of that calibre to include you. It was great to see the way they carried themselves.

What is it like to playing in front of the passionate Orange Army at St George’s Park which has helped the Sunrisers Eastern Cape claim back-to-back titles?
The crowds have been very good in GQ (Gqeberha). You hardly ever hear what they say. It's just loud. It is really good to play there. It’s a vibe, so you want to do well for them.
I wasn’t part of the first one, but the second year, you could see the guys had the confidence of winning it the previous year. And luckily it paid off for us.
