BETWAY SA20 STARS IN THE IPL: THE 2026 MID-SEASON REVIEW

28 Apr 20264 mins

South Africa Betway SA20 stars have flooded the IPL again this season with the highest number of foreign representatives.

With the 2026 season just crossing the halfway stage, we track their progress.

Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans, MI Cape Town)

Matches: 8, Wickets: 13, Best Figures: 3/25, Average: 22.61, Economy: 9.48

The Proteas pace spearhead has been consistent throughout this season’s IPL batting bonanza. After a disappointing T20 World Cup, it has been good to see Rabada generate speeds in the range of 145 kph and trouble batters with the extra bounce he’s been able to extract. An excellent performance of 3/25 against Chennai Super Kings recently propelled Rabada to joint-third on the Purple cap list.

Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad, Durban’s Super Giants)

Matches: 8, Runs 349, Best Innings: 62, Average: 49.85, Strike-rate: 149.78, 50s: 3, 100s: 0

The leading South African batter, Klaasen is on track to pass 400 runs for the fourth consecutive season. Similarly to Rabada, it's been a consistent season for Klaasen without any spectacular standout performances. The 34-year-old has a top score of 62, but hasn’t been dismissed for anything less than 29.

It has been enough to push up to fifth on the overall run-scorers list.

Tristan Stubbs: (Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Matches: 8, Runs 201, Best Innings: 60, Average: 50.25, Strike-rate: 137.67, 50s: 2, 100s: 0*

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain has slotted neatly into his ‘finisher’ role at Delhi Capitals, often being utilised between No 5 and No 7. The highlights have been consecutive half-centuries Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Stubbs could, though, possibly be utilised higher up the order, especially with the Capitals’ top-order proving to be brittle at the best of times, especially after being reduced to 8/6 against RCB.

Nandre Burger (Rajasthan Royals, Joburg Super Kings)

Matches: 8, Wickets: 8, Best Figures: 2/21, Average: 29.50, Economy: 9.2

The southpaw has formed a formidable new-ball partnership with England ace Jofra Archer at the Royals. The pair have taken a collective 21 wickets thus far. Burger’s ability to induce false shots (46% of shots against him have been false, the highest among bowlers) has posed a serious threat to the IPL batters.

Lungi Ngidi (Delhi Capitals, Pretoria Capitals)

Matches: 7, Wickets: 7, Best Figures: 3/27, Average: 29.42, Economy: 8.70

Although Ngidi has been discharged from hospital after a dreadful knock against the head in his last game, the Proteas pacer’s involvement in the rest of the IPL may be curtailed. Although the IPL Playing Conditions do not specify, under the ICC regulations stipulate a mandatory seven-day stand-down for any player diagnosed with a concussion. Prior to the injury, Ngidi was excellent for the Capitals with his slower balls flummoxing batters on a regular basis.

Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants, Durban’s Super Giants)

Matches: 8, Runs 193, Best Innings: 45, Average: 24.12, Strike-rate: 144.02, 50s: 0, 100s: 0

It’s been a relatively quiet series for the DSG captain, who has been moved from opening the batting to back down to the middle-order. However, his leadership credentials are still highly valued with former India batter Wasim Jaffer calling for Markram to take over the LSG captaincy from Rishabh Pant.

Ryan Rickelton (Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town)

Matches: 5, Runs 137, Best Innings: 81, Average: 27.40, Strike-rate: 155.68, 50s: 1, 100s: 0

Rickelton stormed out of the blocks in the IPL opener with a blistering 81 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But despite this promising start, and being favoured ahead of Proteas teammate Quinton de Kock, Rickelton faded away, eventually losing his place to De Kock.

Quinton de Kock (Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Matches: 3, Runs 132, Best Innings: 112, Average: 66.0, Strike-rate: 162.96, 50s: 0, 100s: 1*

The experienced De Kock was forced to bide his time during the initial stages of the competition with Mumbai Indians pairing up Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton at the top of the order. However, an injury to Sharma opened the door for De Kock’s return, and the Proteas veteran barged through with an unbeaten century. It forced Mumbai Indians to leave Rickelton out for the subsequent matches, and De Kock will hope he can finish the tournament strongly.

Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Matches: 7, Wickets: 7, Best Figures: 2/37, Average: 24.0, Economy: 8.95

Runs 10, Best Innings: 9, Average: 10.0, Strike-rate: 90.90, 50s: 0, 100s: 0

After taking 16 wickets during Punjab Kings’ run to the IPL final last season, where he was primarily handed the new ball in the Powerplay, Jansen has been utilised in a new role this year. Coach Ricky Ponting has preferred to call on Jansen during the middle period. It may not have seen him strike as often, but has seen Jansen decrease his economy to under nine runs per over this season. Hasn’t had many opportunities with the bat in Punjab’s unbeaten season thus far.

Donovan Ferreira (Rajasthan Royals, Joburg Super Kings)

Matches: 7, Runs 130, Best Innings: 69, Average: 26.0, Strike-rate: 146.60, 50s: 1, 100s: 0

“The Don” has been a regular for the Royals with his best effort unfortunately coming in a losing cause against the Sunrisers.

David Miller (Delhi Capitals, Paarl Royals)

Matches: 8, Runs 123, Best Innings: 41, Average: 41, Strike-rate: 146.42, 50s: 0, 100s: 0*

The experienced left-hander’s stature in the shortest format is without question after he recently became the third South African batter to pass 12 000 T20 runs. He has also recovered from failing to take Delhi over the line after refusing a single in the last over against Gujarat Titans by redeeming himself against RCB by smashing 6, 6 and 4.

Dewald Brevis (Chennai Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals)

Matches: 5, Runs 64, Best Innings: 41, Average: 16, Strike-rate: 120.75, 50s: 0, 100s: 0

An injury at the start of the IPL saw Brevis miss Chennai Super Kings’ opening few matches. It’s been a slow recovery for “Baby AB” as he tried to regain his form since being reinstated into the Super Kings’ line-up.

George Linde (Lucknow Super Giants, MI Cape Town)

Matches: 3, Wicket: 3, Best Bowling: 1/18, Average: 55, Economy: 8.9

Runs 31, Best Innings: 16, Average: 10.33, Strike-rate: 147.61, 50s: 0, 100s: 0

The Proteas allrounder was a late replacement for the injured Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). It is Linde’s maiden IPL experience and he’s tried his best to make an impact in the limited opportunities that he’s had.

Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town)

Matches: 1, Wicket: 1, Best Bowling: 1/39, Average: 39, Economy: 12.31

After a solid T20 World Cup in India, Bosch would have been hoping for more opportunities than just the one match he’s had thus far.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius (Rajasthan Royals, Paarl Royals)

Matches: 1, Runs 1, Best Innings: 0, Average: 0, Strike-rate: 0 50s: 0, 100s: 0

The 20-year-old has also been granted just one game, but unfortunately failed with the bat.

Anrich Nortje (Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Matches: 1, Wickets: 0, Best Bowling: 0/39, Economy: 9.75

The experienced quick completes a trio of South Africans who've played just the single match of IPL 2026, going wicketless during his four overs against former team Delhi Capitals.
