SIGNIFICANT BETWAY SA20 CONTINGENT SET FOR INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE 2025

There will once again be a healthy contingent of Betway SA20-signed players when the 18th season of the Indian Premier League gets underway on 22 March.

A total of 31 players will start the campaign, with 2024 wooden-spoonists Mumbai Indians featuring the most with five. This number includes the SA20 record run-scorer Ryan Rickelton, whose exploits for MI Cape Town has earned him his first IPL gig to play alongside Trent Boult (who he’s now familiar with), Will Jacks, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Corbin Bosch – a late replacement for Lizaad Williams who has not recovered from the injury which kept him out of SA20 Season 3.

Defending IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have the second-most SA20 players in their squad, with four. Moeen Ali and Quinton de Kock arrive at Kolkata with vast IPL experience (this being De Kock’s sixth team in the league), while Anrich Nortje will hope to find fitness and form for his new team. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, had a fits-and-starts SA20 season with Pretoria Capitals, so will look for consistency having been re-signed by KKR.

Five of the IPL teams, will have three SA20-signed players amongst their ranks. The headlines among those are arguably; Faf du Plessis’ arrival at Delhi Capitals (who retained Tristan Stubbs and also signed Donovan Ferreira), Chennai Super Kings adding Noor Ahmad to their ranks, Gujarat Titans will have Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee, Lucknow Super Giants featuring a middle-order of Aiden Markram and David Miller (and handing an IPL debut to Matthew Breetzke) while SA20 Player of the Season Marco Jansen will be seen in Punjab Kings colours this time around after departing Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Talking about the 2024 runners-up, Heinrich Klaasen will still be seen in their orange colours this time around and will be joined by Paarl Royals wildcard Eshan Malinga and Wiaan Mulder, signed as a replacement.

After setting many records during his Matric year when Mumbai Indians snapped him up, Kwena Maphaka will turn out in familiar pink for Rajasthan Royals who’ll hope he settles as well as he did for their Paarl franchise.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik, may have retired as an IPL player (despite showing for Paarl Royals that he still ‘has it’) but will be in action as Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s batting coach and mentor. (Click below for Karthik's Top 10 Moments of Betway SA20 Season 3.)
