TOP SIX: GROUP STAGE LEADING BOWLERS
The Betway SA20 Season 2 group stage is all done and dusted and there have been some special performances from the bowlers.
We have collated the six leading performers before the playoffs get underway with Qualifier 1 on Tuesday at Newlands.
LIZAAD WILLIAMS (JOBURG SUPER KINGS)
Wickets: 15 | BB: 4-26 | Ave: 16.53 | Econ: 9.92
Lizaad Williams, the King of the Wanderers, has struck telling blows for his side throughout the competition, despite his team’s struggles to reach the playoffs. His unique celebration upon taking a wicket has certainly invigorated the home supporters at the Bullring and they will be hoping they see much more of it in the playoffs this week.
DANIEL WORRALL (SUNRISERS EASTERN CAPE)
Wickets: 15 | BB: 3-20 | Ave: 18.53 | Econ: 8.17
The Australian-come-Englishman Daniel Worrall has been a revelation for the Sunrisers since joining them for Season 2. The defending champions lost both Brydon Carse and Craig Overton in the build-up, but the experienced Worrall has taken on the responsibility of leading the attack with aplomb. He has been particularly good with the new ball in the Powerplay.
WAYNE PARNELL (PRETORIA CAPITALS)
Wickets: 14 | BB: 4-33 | Ave: 17.36 | Econ: 10.56
Pretoria Capitals captain Wayne Parnell missed the initial stages of the competition through injury, and his absence was severely felt. And although his economy was relatively expensive upon his return, Parnell has always been a strike-bowler blessed with the X-factor of taking wickets, which is proved by the fact that his third on the list despite only playing eight matches. His four-wicket haul in the final match against MI Cape Town at Newlands almost pushed his team into the playoffs.
LUNGI NGIDI (PAARL ROYALS)
Wickets: 13 | BB: 4-39 | Ave: 25.3 | Econ: 9.67
Lungi Ngidi started the Betway SA20 Season in hugely impressive form, bowling with good pace not seen in many seasons. His line and lengths were also superb, and when backed up by his change of pace and cutters, Ngidi was an impressive package. And the results followed, especially early on. However, he has lost his radar a bit, especially at the death, and the Royals will hope he rediscovers his form at the Bullring in the playoffs.
NOOR AHMAD (DURBAN'S SUPER GIANTS)
Wickets: 12 | BB: 5-11 | Ave: 23.2 | Econ: 5.82
Noor Ahmad, the heir to Rashid Khan’s mystery spinner throne in Afghanistan, has brought a fresh energy not only to DSG, but to the competition in its entirety. He claimed the first five-for of Season 2, and the Super Giants shot his way to the top of 'algorithm-powered' Bowler of the Season leaderboard.
OTTNIEL BAARTMAN (SUNRISERS EASTERN CAPE)
Wickets: 12 | BB: 5-11 | Ave: 23.3 | Econ: 7.87
'The Bartman' has been superb for the Sunrisers. With Worrall taking care of the new-ball Powerplay, the Oudtshoorn-seamer has been handed the responsibility of the death overs. He has shown great temperament in closing out matches, particularly that special last over against MI Cape Town at Newlands. He will be put under pressure in the Eliminator from Durban’s Super Giants’ power-packed batting line-up, but he has shown he enjoys the big moments.
