SUNRISERS EASTERN CAPE AND MI CAPE TOWN DELIVER A ST GEORGE'S PARK THRILLER
Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town served up a thriller at St George's Park, but unfortunately the 'Big City' derby between Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals was washed out at Centurion on another Betway SA20 Super Saturday.
The Sunrisers' edged out their Cape Town rivals by four runs before a roaring home crowd to move up to 19 points in third place.
The St George's Park humdinger went down to the last over with MI Cape Town requiring 18 runs off the final six balls.
Sunrisers’ paceman Daniel Worrall was tasked with delivering the final over.
The Australian held his nerve when he dismissed Delano Potgieter with the first ball, courtesy of a good diving catch by Patrick Kruger at fine leg.
The crucial aspect was that it kept MI Cape Town captain Kieron Pollard at the non-striker’s end.
George Linde, however, made an immediate impression with a six and four to reduce the target to eight off three balls.
But Worrall only conceded a further three singles including having Pollard run out off the penultimate delivery to send the Sunrisers faithful into raptures.
Some of Saturday afternoon's star performers were Tom Abell, Aiden Markram, Sam Curran and Kieron Pollard.
Earlier, Tom Abell and captain Aiden Markram struck half-centuries to lift Sunrisers to lift the home team to 175/6.
Abell has been in sparkling form at St George's Park with his 60 off 44 balls, the second half-century at home of the Season 2 campaign.
Markram provided the impetus with 54 off 32 balls before Tristan Stubbs clubbed 23 off 13 balls too.
Nuwan Thushara (2/32) and Kagiso Rabada (2/26) were the most successful bowlers for MI Cape Town.
The visitors’ reply begun in the worst possible fashion when Rassie van der Dussen was run out within the first Powerplay.
There were contributions down the order from Liam Livingstone (26), Sam Curran (30), Pollard (30) and Dewald Brevis (26), but the visitors just did not have enough firepower to get them that much-needed victory.
Meanwhile, the Capitals and Joburg Super Kings claimed two points each to leave them with 10 and eight points respectively.
