MORKEL CALLS ON JSK'S SENIOR CORE TO STEP UP

Joburg Super Kings are confident they will be able to turn around their fortunes quickly. 

The Super Kings have yet to savour the sweet taste of victory in Betway SA20 Season 2 after falling to two consecutive defeats to MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants. 

The bonus point loss to DSG was particularly disappointing as the visitors had put in an exceptional shift with the ball and in the field to restrict the home side to 145/8.

At the halfway stage, JSK certainly looked on track for their first win of the competition, but unfortunately fell away with the bat in the second innings as they managed just 108/9 in reply. 

“It’s always tough to start a tournament like this but to stick together as a unit. Times like these you have no other option,” JSK batting coach Albie Morkel said. 

“We are not batting as a unit at the moment. It is a matter of the senior guys stepping up. Faf and Reeza are a great combination for us. And we have lots of experience down the order.  We have an experienced side and a great leader.” 

JSK’s next challenge is an away trip to Boland Park where they will face the unbeaten Paarl Royals on Wednesday evening. 

Morkel feels this could be a blessing in disguise. 

“We have a quick turnaround, which is also a good thing,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of time to go back to the hotel and think about it.

“We still have seven games left. We know we can turn it around. T20 cricket is like that. You are able to change it around in one game.”

Joburg Super Kings remain on the road for the next match on Wednesday, at Boland Park against Paarl Royals (17:30 SAST).
