Jason Holder ready to light up the Bullring

Jason Holder was earmarked as one for the future early on when he was named West Indies ODI captain at 23 years old, followed by taking the Test leadership reins shortly afterwards.

Despite always playing his heart out, it proved to be a heavy burden - even for a man who stands 6-foot-7 in his socks.

Relieved of those pressures during the latter stages of his career, Holder, now 34, has taken his game to a new level, ageing like a fine wine.

The allrounder is no stranger to Betway SA20 after playing a couple of seasons for Durban’s Super Giants, but he will now call the Bullring home after being pre-signed by the Joburg Super Kings.

Holder has been in tremendous form over the past 12 months. He was superb for the West Indies at the T20 World Cup in India, where he excelled with both bat and ball. The lanky Bajan claimed 10 wickets at an economy rate of 8.86, while also scoring 141 valuable runs at a strike rate of 174.07. This earned him selection for Cricinfo’s T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament.

It was no once-off, either, with Holder transferring his international form to the franchise arena, where he spearheaded the Gujarat Titans’ five-game winning streak to book their place in the 2026 IPL final.

Holder went a step further at the recent MLC, guiding the Los Angeles Knight Riders to the championship title, with his 16 wickets playing a large part in the triumph.

The former Windies captain has played over 300 internationals across all formats, and this experience, along with his skill set, will be invaluable to a JSK team set for a rebuild in Season 5.
