IPL COMES CALLING FOR LIZAAD WILLIAMS
Joburg Super Kings fast bowler Lizaad Williams will get his first taste of the Indian Premier League this season Williams was snapped up by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 50 lakh.
Williams will replace England’s Harry Brook, who withdrew from IPL 2024 following his grandmother's death. The Proteas paceman will join his fellow national teammates Anrich Nortje and Tristan Stubbs in the Delhi Capitals squad.
Paarl Royals seamer Lungi Ngidi was also part of the Capitals squad, but was forced to withdraw from the IPL after picking up a lower-back injury during the latter stages of the Betway SA20 Season 2. Ngidi has since recovered and is playing for the Titans in the on-going Cricket SA T20 Challenge. It was just reward for Williams after he was among the leading wicket-takers in Betway SA20 Season 2 with 15 scalps for the Joburg Super Kings.
The Vredenburg-born paceman has 106 wickets from 83 T20s overall, with a bowling average of 19.76, while he was also part of the Proteas’ ODI squad that reached the ICC World Cup semi-final in India last year. Williams may be drafted into the Delhi Capitals at the expense of his Proteas teammate Anrich Nortje. Nortje has not found his rhythm yet since returning from a long-term injury and has conceded 65 runs in the clash against Mumbai Indians, including 32 runs in one over. He also went for 59 runs in his quota of four overs against Kolkata Knight Riders.
