I DON’T THINK ANY BOUNDARY IS TOO BIG FOR POORAN – DSG CAPTAIN MAHARAJ
There’s been a few changes in Durban’s Super Giants’ camp after they missed out on a Betway SA20 Season 1 playoffs spot only because of inferior net run rate.
Arguably, the most significant is local favourite Keshav Maharaj taking over the captaincy from Quinton de Kock, who will be left to focus solely on his batting at the top of the order and, in turn, entertaining the Kingsmead crowd. That said, Maharaj himself is licking his lips at the addition of another left-handed wicketkeeper-batter to DSG’s ranks for Season 2 - Nicholas Pooran.
“Look when I heard his name thrown in the hat I was super excited,” Maharaj told his team’s media crew following his arrival in camp after Proteas duties.
Pooran is a name not only on SA20 punters’ lips, but those around the globe too considering the Trinidadian’s exploits over the last year.
“We know the talent and ability he possesses. I think he’ll fit in really well, especially amongst the Durban crowd. I don’t think any boundary is too big for him in the world. We saw glimpses of what he did in the IPL and he scored some really important knocks for the team [Lucknow Super Giants – DSG’s sister team].

With Pooran in their batting line-up the chances of net run rate counting against DSG again should slim, but Maharaj is also expecting the 28-year-old to have a significant impact off the park too.
“Hopefully he can bring that class to Durban and I think, cricket aside, he’s an amazing personality to have. From my limited interaction, he’s a very warm, exciting person to have in the change room, brings that fun element, that sense of calm, but also is a fierce competitor and he’s a leader within the unit so we know we can always learn from him.”
Considering Maharaj’s praise, tickets to Kingsmead to watch Pooran in action for DSG against MI Cape Town should not be a high priority. Buy them now!
