FAF'S FIRING FIFTY DRIVES KINGS TO THE TOP

Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis provided the perfect platform upfront to entrench the St Lucia Kings position at the top of the Caribbean Premier League table. 

The Kings crushed the Trinbago Knight Riders by 80 runs in Tarouba.

Du Plessis stroked 59 off 43 balls (4x4 ; 3x6) at a strike-rate of 137.20. The skipper complimented his more attacking opening partner Johnson Charles (89 off 40 balls, 7x4 ; 8x6) as the pair formed a solid foundation with a 140-run stand for the first wicket in just 12.4 overs. 

Charles, who has registered for the Betway SA20 Season 3 auction set to be held on October 1 in Cape Town, was the first to depart, but Du Plessis held it together until the end of the 16th over before he was caught on the leg side fence off former MI Cape Town captain Kieron Pollard.

Pollard was the pick of the Knight Riders bowlers with figures of 4/38 to restrict the St Lucia Kings to 218/6.

The Knight Riders’ were never in the hunt during their run-chase due to Durban’s Super Giants leg-spinner Noor Ahmed running through their batting line-up.

The Afghanistan star bamboozled the TKR batters with his mystery spin, picking up the big wickets of Tim David, Akeal Hossein and Andre Russell to finish with the impressive figures of 3/39. 

Du Plessis’s JSK teammate David Wiese (2/27) mopped up the tail with the  all-rounder closing out TKR’s innings on 138 all-out in just 17.5 overs.
