DSG COACH KLUSENER SECURES IPL ROLE

Durban’s Super Giants head coach Lance Klusener has been rewarded for leading his team to the Betway SA20 Season Final by securing an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 gig.

The 52-year-old will join Lucknow Super Giants, DSG’s sister team, as an assistant coach and will work closely with head coach Justin Langer during the upcoming IPL season.

Klusener will find himself among familiar faces when he gets to Lucknow as three of his own assistants in SA20 also work for LSG, namely Sridharan Sriram (assistant), Morne Morkel (bowling) and Jonty Rhodes (fielding).

Similarly, a number of players who starred under Klusener in DSG’s 2024 SA20 campaign will be looking to do likewise when the IPL gets underway on 22 March. Big-hitting West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran had a three-match stint in South Africa’s premier T20 league before being replaced as Wildcard by Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis – both of whom became instantly popular at Kingsmead. So too did Afghanistan quick bowler Naveen-ul-Haq while Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock are DSG ‘originals’.

LSG, who have finished third in their two IPL campaigns to date (and being knocked out in the playoffs), start their 2024 season on Sunday, 24 March away at Rajasthan Royals. Their subsequent fixtures in the first two weeks of the league are against Punjab Kings (home), Royal Challengers Bangalore (away) and Gujarat Titans (home).
