SEASON 3 TEAM-BY-TEAM REVIEW | DURBAN'S SUPER GIANTS
Upon reflection Durban’s Super Giants will wonder how it all went so wrong in Season 3.
The Season 2 runners-up were packed with superstars after bolstering their squad with former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and England World Cup winner Chris Woakes.
A thrilling win in the opening game at a packed Kingsmead would also have filled the dressing room with confidence for the rest of the competition.
But unfortunately, it was only downhill from there for the Super Giants as they picked up just one further victory in their remaining nine matches to finish bottom of the table.
The rotation of the opening combination did not create any stability and when Quinton de Kock was eventually moved up to open the innings after drifting in the middle-order during the early stages it was too late to resurrect the campaign.
Equally, Season’s 2 most dynamic batter Heinrich Klaasen, who became the first batter to pass 1000 runs in the history of competition, was often kept back too late to make a meaningful impact.
One of the few highlights of the campaign was Afghanistan's mystery wrist spinner Noor Ahmad as he continued to bamboozle all the opposition batters.
It will be interesting to see how the Super Giants approach the mega auction this year as they look to shape up their squad for an improved showing in Season 4.
