5 of the best: deliveries that have defined Betway SA20

Batters get the highlights, but bowlers have produced some of the league's best moments.

Here are five deliveries, one or more from each of the first four seasons, that sent the stumps flying.

1. Kyle Mayers to Dewald Brevis (Season 1)

MI Cape Town vs Durban's Super Giants, 13 January 2023

West Indies allrounder Kyle Mayers ran in and delivered a huge in-swinger second ball of the innings that beat Dewald Brevis and uprooted two of his stumps. Both the young batter and the Newlands crowd were stunned into silence. 

2. Nandre Burger to Sam Curran (Season 2)

Joburg Super Kings vs MI Cape Town, 13 January 2024

Yorkers under pressure are the hardest skill in T20 bowling, and Nandre Burger delivered one on the last ball of the innings. It crashed through Sam Curran's pad into middle and off stump. The pace, the length and the timing all came together at the moment when the batter was looking to strike a boundary.

3. Nuwan Thushara to Jos Buttler (Season 2)

Paarl Royals vs MI Cape Town, 21 January 2024

Nuwan Thushara's slingy action is hard to pick up, and it got the better of one of the best white-ball batters in the world. With the former England captain, Jos Buttler, aiming to accelerate at the back-end of the innings, Thushara managed to beat Buttler’s outside edge to send the off-stump cartwheeling away. It was a dismissal that showed how uncomfortable Thushara's angle could be.

4. Ottneil Baartman to Eathan Bosch (Season 3)

Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Pretoria Capitals, 22 January 2025

The Sunrisers held the aces with the ball throughout the Capitals’ run-chase and Ottneil Baartman delivered the coup de grace when he clean-bowled Eathan Bosch in the 17th over. It was a pace-on delivery attacking the stumps, which Bosch failed to connect, that sent the bails flying. It was a fitting finish with the Capitals skittled for just 97.

5. Lungi Ngidi to Dan Lawrence (Season 4)

Pretoria Capitals vs Paarl Royals, 15 January 2026

Lungi Ngidi’s slower balls have become world-renowned and it was one of these dipping yorkers that beat Lawrence's inside edge, went through his legs and hit the stumps. The change of pace and the late dip made it a masterclass in death-overs bowling.
