SEASON 4'S MOST SPECTACULAR BOWLING SPELLS

4 Feb 20264 mins

Betway SA20 Season 4 delivered high-quality bowling performances. Both the seamers and spinners were excellent in holding their nerve under immense pressure when the batters were looking to accelerate.

We have selected five spells that turned matches on their heads, which features an incredible two hattricks for the first time in Betway SA20 history.

1. Ottneil Baartman: 5/16 including a hattrick

Paarl Royals vs Pretoria Capitals, Centurion, 15 January 2026

Undoubtedly the performance of the season. Baartman claimed the only five-wicket haul of the tournament, which included a sensational hattrick. Baartman became just the second bowler in SA20 history to grab a hattrick. His victims were Andre Russell, Lizaad Williams and Lungi Ngidi. He had earlier claimed two wickets also with successive deliveries when he clean-bowled Connor Esterhuizen and trapped Jordan Cox plumb in front.

2. Lungi Ngidi: Maiden Betway SA20 hattrick

Pretoria Capitals vs Durban Super Giants, Kingsmead, 7 January 2026

Ngidi etched his name into the Betway SA20 history books when he became the first bowler to claim a Betway SA20 hattrick. Bowling at the death, Ngidi claimed David Wiese, followed by Sunil Narine before Gerald Coetzee completed the hattrick when he held out in the deep.

“I had a big over to bowl. The game was on the line. And then just focus on what I do best. That’s slower balls and bouncers. It worked out well, so I’m very happy!” Ngidi said.

3. Anrich Nortje: 4/13

Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Paarl Royals, Boland Park, 27 December 2025

Nortje had not played a SA20 match for two seasons due to injury, and there was great anticipation ahead of his comeback for new team Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

The “Uitenhage Express” delivered in spectacular fashion, as he tore through Paarl Royals’ batting line-up with a rasping spell. Nortje bowled with bristling pace, routing the Royals for a record-low 49.

4. Sikandar Raza: 4/13

Paarl Royals vs MI Cape Town, Newlands, 4 January 2026

The first Zimbabwean to play in the Betway SA20 made a dramatic impact from the moment he arrived in South Africa. The veteran allrounder had batters in a flux with his mystery action, and none more so than in the Western Cape derby against MI Cape Town at Newlands.

Raza spun the defending champions in a web with a mesmerising spell to dismiss MI Cape Town for just 88 to secure Royals’ first win at Newlands.

5. The Joburg Super Kings pace attack

Joburg Super Kings vs Pretoria Capitals, Wanderers, 17 January 2026

Although this collective performance was ultimately in vain due to a spectacular partnership between Dewald Brevis and Sherfane Rutherford for Capitals, the initial new-ball burst from the JSK attack had the Bullring gasping for air.

Dan Worrall (2/12), Nandre Burger (1/32) and Wiaan Mulder (2/32) were outstanding in the Powerplay as they reduced the Capitals to an unbelievable 7/5 after 4.5 overs.

Four Capitals batters (Bryce Parsons, Connor Esterhuizen, Roston Chase and Andre Russell) were all dismissed for ducks during this intoxicating period of seam bowling.
