MI Cape Town out to conquer Newlands and beyond

MI Cape Town will kick off their Betway SA20 Season 5 with a banger against Joburg Super Kings in the 'El Clasico' derby at Newlands on 20 January 2027.

This much-anticipated fixture has been an enthralling one over the past four seasons, with MI Cape Town edging their great rivals with four wins to three over seven contests.

The action heats up even further for Robin Peterson's team, with their next match another Western Cape derby against neighbours Paarl Royals at Newlands.

The Season 3 champions were impenetrable at home during their 2024/25 championship run and will hope to claim two wins under the watch of Table Mountain to build early momentum.

Another Cape derby follows at Boland Park before MI Cape Town take to the road for the first time to face triple champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

The Newlands faithful do not have to wait long, though, to see their heroes in action again, with MI Cape Town hosting Durban's Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in two mid-week clashes in early February.

A three-game road trip up to the East Coast and the Highveld to face DSG, Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals follow, which could be a major determining factor in MI Cape Town reaching the Playoffs, before closing out the regular season on Valentine's Day against the Capitals at home.

MI Cape Town will have a dangling carrot before them, with Newlands set to host the Betway SA20 Season 5 Final for the third time - which could prove just the motivation for the boys in blue to reach a second grand final.
