JSK'S FAF DU PLESSIS SMASHES VIRAT KOHLI'S T20 RECORD

Du Plessis, 40, has been in superb form in the United States, playing for Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket.

The veteran top-order batter currently tops the run-scoring charts with 409 runs at an average of 51.12, which includes two centuries and unselfishly retiring himself out on 91 in one innings.

It was during this knock against the Seattle Orcas that Du Plessis surpassed Indian legend Virat Kohli to become the all-time highest-scoring T20I captain in cricket history.

The former Proteas captain moved up to 6 575 runs eclipsing Kohli's previous 6 564-run T20I record.

“I’ve always enjoyed my cricket with extra responsibility, that's something I never get tired of,” Du Plessis said after achieving the record.

Du Plessis has the opportunity to extend his lead at the top of the charts when he leads the Texas Super Kings in their Qualifier 2 against MI New York on Saturday.

TSK were forced to play Qualifier 2 after their Q1 against Washington Freedom was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Washington Freedom advanced automatically to the final due to finishing top of the MLC table.

Du Plessis’ accomplishment places him in the top group of captains with the most T20 run totals:

Faf du Plessis: 6575 runs

Virat Kohli: 6564 runs

MS Dhoni: 6283 runs

Rohit Sharma: 6064 runs
