JORDAN HERMANN AND CODI YUSUF SET TO FACE ENGLAND LIONS
Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Jordan Hermann and Paarl Royals’ Codi Yusuf have been called up to the SA Invitational XI squad to face England Lions in Cape Town next week.
Hermann, who struck a maiden T20 century for the Sunrisers at Newlands in Betway SA20 Season 2, has been in superb red-ball form in Cricket SA’s first-class competition this season.
He has held the Warriors’ batting unit together almost single-handedly with 456 runs in eight innings at an average of 57.0.
The left-hander has a highest score of 152 and three further half-centuries, although two of those innings were scores of 98 and 99.
Hermann is certainly fulfilling the promise after Betway SA20 Ambassador AB de Villiers stated that he was “really impressed" with the 22-year-old after watching him in Season 1.
Yusuf, meanwhile, continues to develop immensely as a fast bowler. Over the past 12 months, the Royals seamer has graduated to the South Africa ‘A’ team.
He has carried this form through to this season with Yusuf among the leading wicket-takers in the Cricket SA 4-Day Series with 15 wickets at an average of 23.13. It included a best of 5/71.
Paarl Royals fast bowler, Codi Yusuf is one of two Betway SA20 Season 3 players who are set to play against England Lions.
Pretoria Capitals’ Season 2 squad member, Matthew Boast has also been included in the 13-player squad.
"The squad is a well-balanced mix of seasoned players and promising newcomers, each earning their spot through exceptional performances in domestic cricket," said coach Imraan Khan.
"This match presents an invaluable platform for these players to showcase their skills against high-quality opposition. We look forward to seeing how they embrace this opportunity, just as we saw a number of players do the same earlier this year in the series against Zimbabwe Emerging.
"Playing against England Lions offers a unique challenge for our players, and we are eager to see how they rise to the occasion.”
The Lions squad, who've been in Cape Town since 20 November on a 'development camp' under the tutelage of England legend Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, includes Yusuf's Royals teammate John Turner.
