Pretoria Capitals pace bowlers Migael Pretorius and Daryn Dupavillon have joined Beyers Swanepoel in securing deals in England’s County Championship.

Pretorius, who played seven matches in the inaugural season of Betway SA20 (before a stint with Durham) was unused during the Season 2. Nonetheless the fast bowler and lower order batter has had a solid domestic season for North West Dragons to earn a deal with Somerset.

The 29-year-old will join them in time for their second County Championship fixture of the season against Surrey and will be available for a minimum of six red-ball matches.

After signing for the Somerset, Pretorius said: “I’m looking forward to joining up with my teammates in the next few weeks. I enjoyed my time in England last summer [with Durham] and I want to show what I can do in the First Division.

“Somerset are a team with a good reputation and hopefully I can take some wickets and help them win some games in the first part of the season.”

Other SA20-signed players on Somerset books are Tom Abell (Sunrisers Eastern Cape) and Tom Banton (MI Cape Town) while Craig Overton was se to be Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s Wildcard before injury ruled him out.

Pretoria Capitals pace bowlers Migael Pretorius and Daryn Dupavillon have signed with Somerset and Derbyshire respectively.

Dupavillon, meanwhile, has signed with Derbyshire in the Second Division and will be available for all formats from the start of May until mid-September.

An experienced quick with more than 350 career wickets to his name, Dupavillon has also made two ODI appearances for South Africa against Pakistan and Australia.

After only playing once during the inaugural season of SA20, Dupavillon was released by Capitals who then re-signed him via the auction and he subsequently played eight matches in Season 2 – claiming nine wickets with a best of 3/25 against Durban’s Super Giants.

The 29-year-old will be available from Derbyshire’s County Championship match against Sussex at the start of May, until the penultimate first-class fixture of the season against Middlesex in September.
