DEWALD BREVIS WANTS TO BLAST EVEN BIGGER SIXES

Betway SA20 Rising Star Dewald Brevis’ is on a genuine hot streak.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a rich vein of form since playing a pivotal role in powering MI Cape Town to the Betway SA20 Season 3 championship title back in February.

He carried it through to the Titans in Cricket SA’s domestic competitions before exploding with a breakout Indian Premier League season with Chennai Super Kings last month.

Brevis is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon after he marked his Hampshire Hawks debut in England’s T20 Blast with a boundary-laden 68 off just 32 balls (4x4, 6x6).

In fact, Brevis announced himself to the T20 Blast with a six off his very first delivery.

“Yeah I think my biggest thing is obviously God blessed me with talent to play like that and yeah it was lots of fun, the intent would always be high to show presence and to enjoy it,” Brevis said.

“If it's there then it's there, if it's a ball that needs to go for six, it has to go for six whether it's the first ball or not.

“So it was fun.

“I'm grateful that it happened, if it wasn't there then it wouldn't have happened but it was there.”

Brevis certainly knows how to hit a long ball, but there was a particular big six among the half-dozen.

The youngster wants to go even bigger though.

“Well yeah it was nice but I was hoping to hit it further,” he said.

“It was good, it was nicely timed but yeah I know it was lots of fun out there.

“I saw the ball nicely and you know just tried to react to it.”

Brevis is hoping to maintain this momentum against London rivals Surrey at the iconic Oval ground in the Hawks’ next match.

“I've heard lots of good things about the Oval - if I'm not mistaken that's the field's name - so yeah I think we should carry this momentum, take it forward and enjoy it, that's the most important thing,” he said.
