BOSCH BROS TO LIVE THEIR DREAM DURING BETWAY SA20 SEASON 2

A dream eight years in the making is set to come true for the Bosch brothers during Betway SA20 Season 2.

For the first time in their professional careers, both Corbin (29) and Eathan (25) are signed to the same team, thanks to Pretoria Capitals recruiting the older of the two for Season 2 after he spent the inaugural season of South Africa’s premier T20 league with Paarl Royals.

When the pair met up in camp earlier this week, alongside the rest of the Capitals squad, it was the natural question put to them by the franchise’s media crew.

Eathan started off with his thoughts on the upcoming new campaign: “It’s obviously really great to be back… coming from last year it was a really fun experience so pretty stoked to be back with the PC guys.”

The League’s Season 1 Rising Star award recipient then touched on the wider significance of where he and Corbin end up teaming up.

“Obviously we’ve never played together, so I’m really looking forward to sharing the field with him for the first time obviously where our dad played cricket.”

Their dad, of course, was Tertius Bosch, who played two One Day Internationals and a sole Test in South Africa’s first since readmission against West Indies in 1992 – a year after he was named South Africa’s Cricketer of Year. Bosch Sr, had starred for Northern Transvaal at Centurion before moving to Durban to both play for the then-Natal and continue his dentistry career too. Mere months after doing so, Corbin arrived before four years later Eathan did.

Corbin, who only played one match in pink kept a close eye on the boys in sky blue – for who Eathan was ever-present through the run to the final and claimed 15 wickets.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Pretoria Capitals. Obviously watching them last year they played a fantastic brand of cricket and I’m excited to be joining the guys here and especially excited to be with [Eathan] for a change. We always play against each other so I’m happy now that we finally get to play with each other.”

It has to be remembered, that while Corbin is joining the Capitals as a new signing, he has a stronger links to the Capital city than Eathan who has been contracted domestically to the Dolphins in Durban since matriculating at Hilton College in 1996. Corbin, meanwhile, attended Pretoria Boys’ High, studied at University of Pretoria (as their father did) and has spent all but three years (one in Australia and the others with Cape Cobras/Western Province) of his professional career based at Centurion.

“Basically it feels like home already, a home away from home, it’s nice joining a new franchise but I think the Pretoria Capitals are very similar to the environment I’m used to at the Titans so hopefully we can bring the best of both worlds and – as the Titans do – win a lot of trophies.”
