ADAM MILNE EAGER TO BRING A THIRD BETWAY SA20 TITLE 'HOME' TO SUNRISERS

New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne is “hoping to be able to bring home another championship to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape” after being pre-signed ahead of Betway SA20 Season 4.

The 33-year-old is well-acquainted with his new home ground, St George’s Park, after first playing there for the Central Districts as a teenage prodigy against the Warriors in the now-defunct T20 Champions League back in 2010.

Milne will return to Gqeberha a seasoned professional, having overcome a lengthy list of injuries that stalled his initial promise.

The paceman is currently riding the crest of a second wave of his career. Having made slight adjustments to his preparation in order to reach peak fitness, Milne is now a consistent performer across T20 leagues all around the world, including the Indian Premier League.

He was one of the standout bowlers in the recent Major League Cricket (MLC) where he claimed 14 wickets at an average of 10.57, which included a best of 5/23.

The wiry fast bowler boasts more than just express pace, having matured over the intervening years, by supplementing his skill-set with variations including the in-to-the-pitch cutters.

It has not gone unnoticed by the Kiwi selectors with Milne also making a promising return to international cricket with the veteran helping the Black Caps to a T20I Tri-Nations series triumph over the Proteas in Harare last weekend.

He will be hoping to bring that form to South Africa when the Sunrisers aim to reclaim the Betway SA20 championship title after finishing runners-up to MI Cape Town last season.

“I am excited to be part of the Sunrisers in SA20 this year,” Milne said. “Looking forward to join up with all the players and coaches and getting stuck in.

“And hoping to be able to bring home another championship to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape.”

Fellow Sunrisers’ pre-signings Jonny Bairstow and AM Ghazanfar have equally expressed their delight at joining the two-times champions.

Englishman Bairstow has swapped the bright lights of Joburg Super Kings for Sunrisers, while Afghanistan spin wizard Ghazanfar will be making his debut in South Africa’s premier T20 competition.

“Loved my time with the @joburgsuperkings,” Bairstow posted. “But time moves on … Excited to be @sunrisersec #orangearmy”

Meanwhile, Ghazanfar stated: “I am really excited to be playing for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the coming SA20.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about this franchise. Looking forward to seeing you all.”
