ABSA STRENGTHENS TIES WITH BETWAY SA20 TO ENHANCE FAN ENGAGEMENT

Absa and South African sports fans have enjoyed a long-standing relationship which has now been further amplified through its relationship with Betway SA20.

The Official Banking Partner of the League, who recently announced a new multi-year partnership, pledges a commitment to its customers and sport that goes beyond mere sponsorship with its ethos lying deep in building both community and connection.

“SA20 is such an exciting tournament. If you think about it, the shorter format of the game is three hours, but it's jam-packed. There's so much happening in three hours. It's sixes, wickets, dot balls, you name it,” said Leon Spies, Chief Financial Officer Consumer Products.

“Absa is passionate about families, and SA20 attracts a diverse group of fans that attend the matches. From young to old, everybody's here. There's a lot of families as well. We do like that quite a lot.

“It's so exciting, so much happening, so we want to be part of the excitement.”

Absa brought its brand to life in incredible fashion with its fan-first activations that created the opportunity for Betway SA20 supporters to win instant cash at matches during Season 3. In Season 3, fans had the chance to win up to R100 000 per match, with one lucky Absa customer walking away with R200 000 at the Final.

“If I reflect back on Season 3, we had the Absa Card Play of the Day where we paid out nearly R2 million to customers, which was quite exciting. We're definitely going to do that again,” Spies said.

In an effort to make the experience even more pleasurable in Season 4, Absa is introducing discounted pricing on match tickets for cardholders through its extensive digital platforms.

“If a customer purchases a ticket with their Absa card, they'll receive a discount,” Spies said, aiming to not only lighten the financial weight but to streamline the entry process for Absa patrons. 

“You don’t have to stand in long queues; we’ll offer them the opportunity to jump the queue, making their match day more enjoyable.”

This will surely be beneficial when Betway SA20 Season 4 kicks off on Boxing Day, 26 December 2025, with defending champions MI Cape Town taking on Durban’s Super Giants at Newlands in Cape Town.
