FIVE BETWAY SA20 STARS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN BOLAND PARK SERIES DECIDER

21 Dec 20232 mins

All roads lead to the home of the Paarl Royals, Boland Park, today for the ODI series decider (start: 13h00) between the Proteas and India.

After suffering a humbling loss in the opening match of the series at the Wanderers last Sunday, the Proteas showed their bouncebackability at the  Betway SA20 champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s fortress St George’s Park on Tuesday.

We take a closer look at five League stars that could make an impact for the Proteas in the decider.

TABRAIZ SHAMSI (PAARL ROYALS)

The Royals star wrist-spinner missed out at St George’s Park, but will be eager to return to the starting line-up in his home ground. Shamsi has been brilliant at Boland Park for a period of time and his knowledge of the home conditions will be a major boost.

A firm crowd favourite, the locals will be excited to see him haul off his boot to make a call celebration.

RASSIE VAN DER DUSSEN (MI CAPE TOWN)

South Africa’s Mr Consistency has had a quiet series thus far after getting a first baller at the Wanderers. But Van der Dussen showed that he was discovering his touch at St George’s Park with a couple of delightful straight drives down the ground. He also returns to a happy hunting ground, having never been dismissed here in ODI’s, having scored 129 not out and 37 not out in his two previous outings there.

DAVID MILLER (PAARL ROYALS)

The captain of the home Betway SA20 team knowledge of the conditions will be invaluable to the Proteas today. Equally, Miller missed out at the Wanderers and wasn’t required in Gqeberha. The veteran will want to show there is still plenty left in the Miller tank yet.

NANDRE BURGER (JOBURG SUPER KINGS)

The young left-arm seamer was particularly impressive in the 2nd ODI in Gqeberha where his extra pace and swing put India on the back foot in the opening Powerplay with a couple of early strikes. It earned Burger a R1.1million IPL deal with the Rajasthan Royals and he will want to celebrate it with another good performance at Boland Park.

HEINRICH KLAASEN (DURBAN'S SUPER GIANTS)

Arguably the best white-ball middle-order batter in the world, Klaasen has had a quiet home summer thus far. It has not been for a lack of trying though and it is likely all he needs to do is find that sweet spot in the middle of the bat again and he will be underway.

It could be a long afternoon in the heat for the Indians should Klaasen get going.
