POWERPLAY WICKETS KEY - OBED MCCOY
If there’s a team who know just how to make the most of conditions at their home ground, then it’s Paarl Royals at Boland Park.
Last season, spinner Bjorn Fortuin was the revelation in Powerplays and ended up taking 14 wickets overall at an economy rate of just 6.45. This season Royals have already throttled the Capitals at home (when they looked like cruising to victory) last Friday and repeated the trick on Wednesday against Joburg Super Kings – who were bowled out for just 134.
“I think we started off well in the Powerplay, what we wanted to do was hit the hard lengths and put the batsmen under pressure early,” Obed McCoy told SuperSport presenter Julia Stuart between innings.
“I think we restricted them well in the Powerplay by getting wickets.”
Boland Park is synonymous for having the lowest-and-slowest of the pitches used for Betway SA20 and McCoy confirmed that was again the case on the night.
“It’s a slow wicket and all we wanted to do was mix it up and bowl slower balls and wide of the wicket so they had to hit to the bigger side. I think we executed well and… we just have to go out there and get it.”
For his part, the 27-year-old left-arm seamer claimed 2-31 from three overs while Lungi Ngidi again was star bowler, wrapping up the innings while taking 3-17.
