COUNTING DOWN THE BETWAY SA20 MVP TOP 50 PART 3: Players 21 - 30
At the conclusion of Betway SA20 Season 2, Heinrich Klaasen was confirmed as the Betway Player of the Season, but the strength of the League is evident by the world class performances and consistency of players throughout the top 50.
For the campaign, the League partnered with cricket’s leading analytics specialists, CricViz, to use their unique Most Valuable Player (MVP) data science model to help rank the players across the season.
The CricViz MVP model is a performance evaluation measure that is used to assess the performance of players across different roles (batting, bowling and fielding) and phases of the game. Additionally, players are rewarded for winning the match, with the captain of the winning team receiving an additional bonus.
Having already recapped numbers 41-50 and 31-40, in Part 3 we take a closer look at the players from 21-30 during Season 2 of South Africa's premier T20 league.
This segment is dominated by the overseas professionals with their experience and class coming to the fore.
WHO RANKS WHERE: 41-50 | 31-40
And of the six overseas internationals featured, there are five Englishmen namely Jason Roy (30), Adil Rashid (29), Moeen Ali (27), Dawid Malan (26) and Sam Curran (23).
To further emphasize the quality of the SA20, four of the aforementioned five players were integral in helping England being crowned T20 World Cup champions in Australia in 2022.
The fifth Jason Roy is, of course, a 50-overs World Cup winner on home soil back in 2019.
The only non-Englishman on the list is Afghanistan's mystery spinner Noor Ahmad (24) who enjoyed a sensational Season 2 with Durban's Super Giants.
Noor was only at Kingsmead for a limited period due to international commitments, but his impact across just six matches played a major role in Lance Klusener’s side qualifying for their maiden SA20 final.
The young leg-spinner claimed 12 wickets at an average of 11.33 at an economy rate of only 5.82. He also bagged one of the three five-wicket hauls in the competition when his 5/11 helped skittle the Paarl Royals for just 83.
Proteas spearheads Lizaad Williams (28), Kagiso Rabada (25) and Lungi Ngidi (21) feature prominently in this segment.
Williams had an excellent competition as he finished as the leading wicket-taker for Joburg Super Kings with 15 scalps at 16.53, which ultimately earned him a maiden IPL deal with the Delhi Capitals.

Ngidi, meanwhile, started the competition strongly and raced to 13 wickets in nine matches, but unfortunately picked up a back injury that ruled him out of the latter stages of the competition. It is no coincidence that the Royals’ form faltered after Ngidi’s absence.
Last, but certainly not least, is young Sunrisers Eastern Cape batter Jordan Hermann.
After making a positive impression in Season 1 after being called up as a Wildcard, Hermann showed greater maturity by transforming into a senior batter for the Sunrisers and playing a major role in the Orange Army winning back-to-back championships.
The highlight of the campaign for the 22-year-old left-hander was his unbeaten 106 at a packed Newlands against MI Cape Town.
