BETWAY SA20 STARLETS PROVIDE YOUTHFUL ENERGY TO SOUTH AFRICA ‘A’ SQUAD
Nine Betway SA20 stars dominate the 15-man South Africa ‘A’ squad for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka.
The SA ‘A’ squad that will be under the guidance of Proteas Men’s Test coach Shukri Conrad will play three one-day and two four-day matches in June.
The team will depart for Sri Lanka on 31 May.
Although the squad boasts some players with Test experience, there is a refreshing youthful energy that has also been added to potentially shape the Proteas’ future.
The majority of these young players cut their teeth in the inaugural Betway SA20 season with MI Cape Town prodigy Dewald Brevis, Sunrisers Eastern Cape duo Jordan Hermann and Tristan Stubbs and Durban’s Super Giants talent Matthew Breetzke all included.
Joburg Super Kings pacmen Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams have also been called up along with wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne.
All-rounders Senuran Muthusamy (Pretoria Capitals) and Corbin Bosch (Paarl Royals) will also travel to Sri Lanka.
Conrad has this to say:
“The squad reflects the next crop of players that are emerging from our pipeline. We also rewarded those who have performed for their respective domestic teams this past summer.”
“The tour will provide the opportunity for those players, together with the younger Proteas, to put their skills to the test in highly competitive, international conditions.”
“It will also serve to strengthen the batting depth in the red-ball department, as we build towards the Test series against India later this year.”
