JSK'S COETZEE RULED OUT OF HOME INTERNATIONAL SEASON

Joburg Super Kings fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the remainder of the international home summer due to a groin injury.

The 24-year-old felt discomfort during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Kingsmead in Durban last week forcing him to leave the field.

Although Coetzee returned to the field, picking up the wicket of Dinesh Chandimal during a brief spell, scans have now revealed a muscle strain in his right groin.

Coetzee will play no part in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Gqeberha this week and the upcoming all-format incoming Pakistan tour.

To compound matters, Coetzee had only just returned from a strength and rehabilitation programme imposed by Cricket SA, which resulted in him missing the series against Afghanistan and Ireland, and the two-match Test series in Bangladesh.

He had also already sat out the entire winter tour of the West Indies, while he missed Jourg Super Kings’ entire Betway SA20 Season 2 campaign due to pelvic inflammation sustained in the first Test against India at Centurion last year.

JSK will be hoping that Coetzee recovers in time for their opening Betway SA20 Season 3 clash against MI Cape Town on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Wanderers. They have already lost both Proteas seamers Nandre Burger and Lizaad Williams to injury.

Paarl Royals’ teenage pace sensation Kwena Maphaka has been called up to replace Coetzee in the squad for the second Test at St George’s Park.

Durban’s Super Giants Matthew Breetzke had also already been called up for his injured DSG teammate Wiaan Mulder after the allrounder suffered an injury during the Kingsmead Test.
