PRETORIA CAPITALS AND JACQUES KALLIS PART WAYS

5 Aug 20243 mins

Pretoria Capitals and Jacques Kallis have parted ways ahead of Betway SA20 Season 3.

Kallis formed part of former head coach Graham Ford’s support staff as assistant coach the past two seasons. Ford was released by the Capitals last month.

South African-born former England international Jonathan Trott has since been appointed Capitals head coach for the forthcoming Betway SA20 season.

Kallis, a veteran of 166 Tests, 328 ODIs, and 25 T20Is for the Proteas national team, was a vocal supporter of South Africa’s premier domestic T20 competition, highlighting the value it would provide for young cricketers in the country.

He particularly enjoyed his time at the Capitals, especially Season 1, when the Centurion-based team finished runners-up in the inaugural competition.

Jacques Kallis has served as Pretoria Capitals assistant coach for the first two seasons of Betway SA20.

“We obviously did quite well, but apart from that, was the fun that we had off the field. I think that’s really important that the guys go away here … yes … cricket is a priority but it’s also about having fun and enjoying the five or six weeks that guys have here,”  Kallis said.

“I think if the guys can walk away with that is as important as the results on the field.”

Kallis’s input within the Capitals dressing room certainly had an impact with Eathan Bosch having claimed that the legendary all-rounder “is one of my idols” and “I'll just try to sponge off him” ahead of Season 1.

Bosch went on to be named Betway SA20 Rising Star in Season 1.
