MATURE DU PLOOY GUIDES BRAVE HOME IN THE HUNDRED

25 Jul 20242 mins

Joburg Super Kings' Leus du Plooy showed his growing maturity to guide the Southern Brave home by seven wickets over London Spirit in The Hundred last night.

Du Plooy struck a workmanlike 22 not out off 19 balls as the Brave chased down London Spirit’s 138/9 with 11 balls to spare.

The left-hander held firm before exploding with a magnificent upper cut over deep cover for six to level up the scores.

The Spirit had earlier struggled to build any momentum through their innings with Sunrisers Eastern Cape opener Adam Rossington falling within the first five-ball set.

It was left to his SEC teammate Liam Dawson to resurrect the Spirit innings with a brilliant little cameo of 45 not out off just 19 balls (4x4, 3x6, strike-rate 236.84).

The major cause of damage for the Spirit was in fact Sunrisers Eastern Cape Season 2 Wildcard Craig Overton with the fast bowler claiming 3/16 for the Southern Brave.

Overton, of course, unfortunately is yet to taste any Betway SA20 action after being ruled out of Season 2 with an injury.

“It was a pretty good surface, just tried to make it difficult for their batters by bowling in the right areas,” Overton said.

“I just had to hit my lengths right. It's massive, this contest (Hundred.) You need to start well, hopefully we can carry this (momentum) forward.”
