Welcome to Newlands
Welcome to Newlands. Where the faithful wear blue and gold. Where lazy days turn into electric nights. Where Rickelton goes big and Rabada runs rampant. Where MI Cape Town turns the tide.
VIEW: Season 5 Fixtures
Newlands, located in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, will always be one of the most iconic and picturesque cricket grounds in the world – even as certain areas are modernised. With the backdrop of Table Mountain, the ubiquitous smell of hops wafting across from the neighbouring brewery and trains rushing past, watching cricket here feels like an experience.
The options for where best to watch the action from are plentiful. For students, look no further than the vibrant and historic Oaks grass embankment on the eastern side of the ground. The smaller North West Grass area tends to be more sedate, so families with kids wanting to play their own mini games favour this area.
Alongside is the popular Railway Stand, with its awning giving a semblance of shade to the groups of professionals who tend to congregate here… looking to be close to the action and strike up conversations – whether amongst themselves or with their favourite players on the boundaries.
Fans at Newlands show their loyalty; nothing beats the mountain backdrop under lights and entertainment options are plentiful, even off the field.
Those looking for complete shade can be found in the upper section of either the North Stand or President's Pavilion. Behind both is where you will find a hive of activity, because these are the locations of food stalls and bars inside the ground.
The venue’s lively, yet laid-back, atmosphere makes it a fantastic place to enjoy a late afternoon’s T20 cricket with entertainment extending beyond the field and onto the concourse. Stay tuned to be the first to find out about what you can look forward to from MI Cape Town and Newlands in Betway SA20 Season 5 - which will once again be the venue for the Final.
