Centurion, located between Midrand and Pretoria, has unique place in South African history in that the town it is in was renamed after it in 1995 – 110 years after its own establishment. The ground is synonymous for its vast grass embankment (covering three-quarters of the ground), corporate chalets on the west side and elevated express railway line sweeping by alongside it.

From a playing perspective the high altitude (1400m above sea level) of Centurion coupled with a ‘true’ pitch and lightning-fast outfield make it a batter-friendly ground. Six of the League top 10 highest totals have happened there, so too SA20's fastest century, Will Jacks' 41-ball ton against Durban's Super Giants in 2024. In fact, four of the 12 centuries to date - have been smashed at Centurion.

Thanks to the embankments, watching cricket at Centurion is a wonderfully family-friendly experience, not least because of the dedicated braai area set-up for use on the east side. In truth though, students and professionals alike can enjoy the grass or – if they prefer an actual seat – situate themselves in the grandstand at the northern end.

One thing’s for certain, though, the most boisterous at a game will find their way to the field-side pool located in front of the ‘The Corner’ on the east side of the main grandstand.

You never have to go far to get your hands on food and drinks, with options located behind the main scoreboard or behind the chalets.

One of the most alluring reason to buy tickets for matches at Centurion (besides seeing fantastic players playing incredible cricket) is that your chance to claim a share of the Betway Catch R2-million pot is better there than anywhere else. As many as 19 of the 43 winners across the tfirst four seasons have taken their one-handed catch at the ground, and they’re come not only on the grass but also in the grandstand – just not in the pool yet…
