Welcome to Boland Park
Welcome to Boland Park. Where Paarl turns pink. Where it’s always Miller time. Where Lhuan-dre makes his name. Where Rubin impresses Sanga. Where Royals rule.
VIEW: Season 5 Fixtures
Boland Park, located on the eastern outskirts of Paarl, is not only another scenic Betway SA20 venue but one that has become known for its welcoming atmosphere since its establishment in 1986. As a result, it’s become a much-loved venue for fans and players alike – though not so much for bowlers toiling in the heat created by its location between two mountain ranges, picturesque as it can be particularly at sunset.
What also makes Boland Park unique is its expansive grass embankment covering 75% of the ground – which means every fan has a great view, though sunscreen is a non-negotiable. The majority of trees offering a bit of shade can be found on the eastern side so families tend to congregate there and allow their kids to bowl and bat on the flatter ground behind them. There’s also a well-sized bar keeping thirsts quenched on this side.
Those requiring shade will have to act quickly to secure seats in the Main Grandstand on the western side of the venue, which is flanked by the two changing rooms as an extra incentive.
The only other partially-covered seats (by awnings) are in the North Stand where the VIPs in the President’s and other suites are above you and the for-SA20-only hospitality deck sits alongside offering glimpses of celebrities from Springboks like Willie le Roux and Jesse Kriel, to world record-setting athletes like Wayde van Niekerk as well as actresses and captains of industry.
The serenity of the setting means that everything at just the right pace and local treats are in the offing at the concession stands, not least ice lollies to cool you down until the most amazing sunsets take place behind the ubiquitous Paarl Rock when sweltering days are replace by cool and refreshing evenings – just as they cricket, in turns, begins the heat up.
Stay tuned to find out what Paarl Royals fans can expect at Boland Park during Betway SA20 Season 5.
